Swimmer Spotlight: Craig's interview with Diana Nyad
Updated: Oct 12
Last year Craig had the privilege of speaking with an American Swimming legend, Diana Nyad, who swam from Cuba to Florida. She is an inspiration and a great role model for our students at Penguin City Swim!
Fun Facts about Diana Nyad:
Diana is in Guinness World Records for being the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida. She was 64 years of age when she accomplished this feat.
Diana succeeded on her fifth attempt. When she finished she said, “Never, Ever Give Up!”
Diana finished the 110 mile swim in 52 hours, 54 minutes, 18 seconds.
Diana was nationally ranked in backstroke but was not able to try out for the 1968 Olympics when she was 16 due to endocarditis, an inflammation of the heart's chambers and valves.
A film is being made about Diana that will be out in November 2023. Annette Bening will play Diana and Jodie Foster will play Diana’s coach and longtime friend, Bonnie.
